Jamie Foxx was recently hospitalized due to an undisclosed “medical complication.”
Recently, Jamie Foxx had a health scare that had fans worried about the Django Unchained actor. His eldest daughter, Corinne Fox, announced on Instagram: “From the Foxx Family: We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday (April 11, 2023). Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.” The family also asked for “privacy during this time.”
The Grammy winner once suffered from a serious health threat at age 18. “How did it make me feel? Like living in your worst nightmares,” he said of that time. “You’re afraid of the dark, afraid of things you see on the television, you feel that things are coming at you.” I felt paranoid, and paranoia is craziness. It’s not good.” Could it be the same reason he was hospitalized recently? Here’s what we know about his health issues.
Foxx’s illness remains undisclosed. However, theIn Living Color alum admitted to previously suffering from substance abuse that led to mental issues and an “almost coma.”
He recalled of that time: “‘Something is going on, and I don’t know what it is, but I’m going to ride it out.’ That was the last thing I said, and then I was almost in a coma and I couldn’t move, couldn’t talk, couldn’t even say, ‘Take me to the hospital.'”
“My friend could see something was badly wrong and he took me to the emergency room,” he continued, noting that another friend “stayed at the hospital with me. Then he took me back to the dorm and I was afraid of the dark and he would talk to me every night and calm me down and say stuff like, ‘You’re OK, the demons aren’t real’ He saved my life.”
Eleven months after, Fox would still get flashbacks from that horrible time. He confessed to getting one or two, years afterward as well. “It felt like all of my fears were coming true and I was going crazy,” he shared. “I read up on PCP after it happened. It leaves a fingerprint and you can’t get it out of your system.”
He added: “It happened to me when I was 18 and I had 11 months of harsh flashbacks, and then when I was 26 I had a flashback just like that (snaps his fingers) – and another one when I was 32, and that was the last one, but I always worry about it coming back.”
Aside from learning the hard way from his traumatic experience when he was 18, Foxx later said that he “learned to live” from his later sister, DeOndra Dixon, who had Down Syndrome. “I learned how to live. Sometimes we get caught up in our world on the extras of everything — ‘Ah, the Mercedes is not the right color!'” he told NBC News correspondent, Kate Snow in 2018.
“And then you see this girl over here. ‘I just want to live. I want to dance. I want to love.’ She brings you back down to what life is.” Unfortunately, in 2020, Dixon passed away at the age of 36. “My heart is shattered into a million pieces… my beautiful loving sister Deondra has transitioned…” the MCU wrote on Instagram at that time.
“I say transitioned because she will always be alive… anyone who knew my sis… knew that she was a bright light…” he continued. “Well I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on…tho my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me… my family… and her friends.”
Dixon had lived with Foxx since 2002. “I said, ‘You’re going to come here and stay here with me,'” the latter said of the arrangement where he also invited other members of the family. “But DeOndra was the main purpose. I didn’t know what she was going to have to do as far as fending for herself and becoming an adult.”
Days before his daughter announced that he had suffered from a “medical complication,” Foxx was still spotted on the set of Back in Action alongside Cameron Diaz. A source told People that the actor is now “stable,” but filming had to be rescheduled due to “changes in production.”
On the bright side, the insider raved about Foxx and Diaz’s “great chemistry.” It was previously reported that the former personally pursued the Charlie’s Angels star for the movie.
“When this project came along and she was pursued by Jamie Foxx, who she has known and worked with for years, she decided to go for it,” the source said of the decision to cast Diaz in the film.
Another informant said that “he encouraged her to unretire,” adding that “she feels a bit rusty and nervous about it, but mostly excited. She is ready to tackle this movie project.”
